An explosion that occurred in the Bodija area of Ibadan has caused panic and pandemonium among residents of the vicinity and the city as a whole.

The explosion which occurred at about 7:44 pm on Tuesday left some residents homeless as it affected several properties including a shopping mall which reportedly collapsed during the incident.

The rescue team brought out a lot of people who had been stuck under the rubble when the incident happened. It was reported that there were 77 injured victims, most of whom had been treated and discharged, and 2 fatalities.

Though some residents said the explosion was caused by a fire outbreak in a house which spread to another house which had dynamite owned by a Gambian resident. The fire came in contact with the dynamite and resulted into an explosion.

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde also said that the occurrence was as a result of illegal miners explosives. He also urged Ibadan residents to remain calm because they are doing their best to salvage the situation.
