Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, has resigned from his position. Following President Muhammadu Buhari's instruction that all cabinet members seeking elective office in the 2023 elections resign by May 16, Amaechi resigned.

The President's instruction was announced at the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

Amaechi's resignation was verified by the APC Twitter UK handle in a tweet.

"Nigeria's #TransportMinister, HM Chibuike R. Amaechi [@ChibuikeAmaechi], has resigned from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to focus on his Presidential Campaign," it said.

"We appreciate your service to Nigeria."
