Can I slaughter a dog instead of a ram for Salah? Man asks clerics

A Nigerian man who was interviewed on the street to disclose his preparation for the Sallah festival said he hasn't purchased a ram yet. He said that rams have become so expensive and he couldn't find one within his budget. Even if he did, he has N200,000 to spare for the festival and he would need to purchase pepper, rice, and other foodstuff for the Islamic festival. Therefore, he wouldn't be able to purchase a ram and would rather buy a dog for N30,000.

However, he wasn't sure if a Muslim could slaughter a dog for the Eid-l-Kabir festival and threw the question to the Islamic clerics. The Muslims in the house stated that dogs are forbidden for every believing Muslim so they shouldn't be slaughtered. Anyone who can't afford a ram could celebrate Sallah according to their pocket because the prices of rams has become unaffordable for the average Nigerian. Rams are sold for N750,000 and above, which many Nigerians cannot afford.
