A 47-year-old Chinese man known as Frank Geng Quandong has been sentenced to death by hanging by a Kano high court for the murder of his 23-year-old Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Buhari.
Quandong stabbed his girlfriend on September 16, 2022, at her residence in Janbulo Quarters, Kumbotso LGA of Kano State. Quandong had told the court that he never planned to kill his girlfriend. According to Quandong, he spent millions of naira on his girlfriend and her family. He gave her N18M to start a business and even paid for her university education only for her to marry another man.
On the day of the incident, Quandong stormed his girlfriend's house after a little misunderstanding on the phone. He got to their house, banging on their door. In the process, the deceased's mother opened the door, ready to confront him. As soon as he stepped into the house, he walked up to his girlfriend and stabbed her.
