The Kano State House of Assembly approved the new law to demote the four Emirates in Kano appointed under the 2019 Emirate Council law and reinstall Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the only Emir in Kano.

Following the amendment of the Kano Emirate law, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has been reinstalled automatically as Emir of Kano. Consequently, the Kano Federal High Court headed by Justice Ahmad Limad, has issued an order suspending the reinstatement of Sanusi as the Emir of Kano.

This decision emanated from a lawsuit filed by Alhaji Aminu Bappa Dan Agundi against the Kano State Government to suspend the implementation of the new Kano Emirate Council law. The suspension affects all positions and institutions of the Emirate Councils formed under the Kano Emirate Council Law 2019.
