In a meeting held at Ode-Ugborodo, a community in Warri South-West LGA of Delta State, the community members resolved to suspend their protest against Chevron Nigeria Limited(CNL).

They decided to give Chevron the benefit of the doubt since the oil company has shown some level of commitment after holding several meetings in an attempt to resolve the dispute.

Some of the important personalities at the meeting that was held on Sunday were Eghare Daniel Uwawah, the Eghare-Aja of the Ugborodo community, Chief Ayirimi Emami of the Warri Kingdom, and Prince Perry Atete and other community indigenes.

The top demands of the people of Ode-Ugborodo were for the petroleum company to provide the community with infrastructures such as electricity and water, as well as create job opportunities for the benefit of all in the community.

Their spokesperson, Mr Alex Eyengho mentioned that a seven-day ultimatum has been issued to Shell Petroleum Development Company to negotiate with the community as Chevron had done. Failure to do so will result in a protest against the oil company.

Companies should be reminded that performing their corporate social responsibility duties in the environment they operate leaves a positive image on their brands.
