Gas explosion in Lagos injures 4 people

A gas explosion which occurred in Lagos State this morning nearly claimed the lives of 4 people.

These people narrowly escaped death due to the explosion which happened at Ijaiye, beside the Apostolic Church, in Agege.

A gas cylinder had suddenly exploded Monday morning in a gas shop. This had led to a fire outbreak.

The incident happened at 1am this morning and emergency responders were able to quickly put out the fire and stopped it from spreading beyond what it was.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu who is the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), revealed that no life was lost in the incident.

He revealed that it was a shop which had stored gas cylinders that caught fire.

He mentioned that an investigation which was conducted by the LRT revealed that one of the gas cylinders was leaking and this was what resulted in the explosion.

The 4 people who escaped death were injured seriously. They include 4 adults, 3 males and 1 female. They sustained injuries of second degree burns due to the explosion.

The agency’s pre hospital care, alongside Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS have attended to the injured people.

They have been taken to the hospital (Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH) for medical treatment.
