The fraud NNPC was doing, which is probably still doing wherever they can import, is that every vessel coming to Nigeria necessarily arrived with demurrage."Senator Adams Oshiomhole says the government must stop becoming a tool for powerful individuals in the oil industry and protect the interests of ordinary Nigerians.

They should just get our refinery working and sell to investors ....
That will end the importation of fuel in the country.

If that’s truly the case, then it’s very troubling. The system should work for the people, not for a few powerful interests. Hopefully, the government takes this seriously and ensures more transparency in the oil sector.

In as much that it is disheartening, they are birds of a feather. We are anticipating a positive change this year

The 'automatic demurrage' issue is one of the biggest hidden taxes on Nigerians. When vessels sit at sea for days or weeks, the cost is passed directly to the pump. @Adegoroye is right—local refining is the ultimate solution, but until we have full transparency in how these import contracts are managed, we’ll keep paying for 'inefficiency' that looks a lot like fraud. It’s time we demand a real-time tracking system for these vessels that the public can see. Sunlight is the best disinfectant!
