US-based Nigerian actor and singer Olurotimi Akinosho popularly known as Rotimi snubs Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and others as he declares himself the pioneer of the Afrobeats movement in the United States of America.
In a recent interview with the 85 South Show podcast, Rotimi revealed that the King of Afrobeats, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid came looking for him to open a show for him in 2012 after his song randomly blew up in Nigeria. Rotimi said his song 'Love Riddim' gained recognition in Nigeria before 2016 when Wizkid collaborated with Drake on the hit song 'One Dance'.
The 'Power' actor said he foresaw the growth of Afrobeats in the US but he never discovered his true potential in music until 2018 when he finally decided to stop sounding too foreign in his music and embrace his African roots.
