Seun Kuti, the son of legendary singer Fela Kuti, sets the record straight as he says he was the first Nigerian singer to perform at the international music festival Coachella.

In a recent interview with The Public Republic, Seun Kuti said the Grammy Awards have nominated him and his brother, Femi Kuti but they get little to no recognition. Seun Kuti recalled how Burna Boy was named the first Nigerian artist to perform at Coachella in 2020 even after performing on the same stage in 2012.

Seun Kuti said even though he is a Grammy-nominated artist, he doesn't feel fulfilled by the title because he rarely gets nominated back home. Seun Kuti thinks he doesn't deserve the recognition because his music may not resonate with his people.
