Senator Ike Ekweremadu, the former Deputy Senate President, has denied allegations that he has defected to the Labour Party.

On Friday, there was speculation that the Senator had switched to the Labour Party after withdrawing from the Peoples Democratic Party's governorship primary contest in Enugu State.

When approached, however, his media aide, Mr. Uche Anichukwu, told reporters that it was a complete fabrication.

He also published a brief remark advising the general public to dismiss the allegations.

"Our attention has been attracted to online falsehoods claiming that former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has joined the Labour Party," the statement states. "This is untrue and should be ignored."
