Lafarge Unveils High-Tech ReadyMix Plant in Lekki to Power Local Manufacturing and Sustainability

Lafarge Africa Plc has taken another bold step in boosting Nigeria’s local manufacturing with the launch of its Freedom Plant — a cutting-edge ReadyMix facility located in Lekki, Lagos.

The new plant is equipped with a fully automated batching system that allows remote monitoring, data transfer, and even operational control from anywhere in the world through secure internet access. This means Lafarge can deliver top-quality products with improved efficiency, consistency, and speed.

Sustainability at the Core
In line with Lafarge Africa’s “Building Progress for People and the Planet” agenda, the facility integrates green technology that:
• Reduces energy consumption
• Minimizes harmful emissions
• Supports the production of eco-friendly building solutions like EcoCrete

Job Creation and Skills Development
Group Managing Director/CEO, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, emphasized that the project is more than just about increased production — it’s also about innovation, sustainability, and empowering people through jobs and skills development.

Expanding Lafarge’s Footprint
The Freedom Plant adds to Lafarge’s growing network in Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Lagos, strengthening its role as a major enabler of infrastructure projects across Nigeria.

Key Features of the Freedom Plant
• Three silos with enough storage for over two days of operation
• Higher production capacity to meet rising construction demand
• Ability to supply both traditional ReadyMix and Lafarge’s new EcoCrete material
• Improved customer service and faster response to Nigeria’s rapidly growing economy

Head of Aggregates and ReadyMix, Derek Williamson, noted that this facility will significantly boost volumes, improve product availability, and reinforce Lafarge’s innovation-driven strategy.

✨ Why This Matters
This launch signals confidence in Nigeria’s construction sector, positioning Lafarge Africa as a leader in sustainable building materials while supporting local manufacturing and infrastructure growth.
