Mats Hummels did not spare the hints as he took a swipe on the Premier League after clubs from the English topflight stumble in UEFA Cup competitions.

All the top three clubs on the Premier League table this season were knocked out in the Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Arsenal fell 3-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich after losing the Champions League quarterfinal second leg by a lone goal to the Bavarians.

Manchester City were eliminated on penalties by Real Madrid after settling for a 4-4 aggregate draw.

On Thursday, the Premier League’s only two representatives in the European second tier were also knocked out in the quarterfinals. Liverpool lost 3-1 on aggregate to Atalanta while West Ham fell 3-1 to Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
