MINISTER URGES SEC TO TACKLE CRYPTOCURRENCY CHALLENGES

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has urged the newly inaugurated board of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to address the complexities of regulating cryptocurrencies and maintain stringent oversight to preserve market integrity. During the board’s inauguration in Abuja, Edun emphasized the need for the SEC to manage regulatory arbitrage and ensure top-notch corporate governance.

Edun highlighted the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, digital currency, and fintech, stressing that the SEC must stay informed and proactive. SEC board Chairman, Mairiga Katuka, assured the minister that the board would leverage its expertise and innovation to drive economic growth, citing reforms by the current administration as positive drivers for Nigeria's economic future.
