Mother and son electrocuted and burnt due to BEDC cable spark in Delta

A woman and her son have been killed by electrocution due to a spark in the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) cable in Delta State.

This woman has been identified as Mary and her son's name is Prince.
They were electrocuted with high-tension cable and were killed.

This happened in a community known as Eruemukohwarien in Ughelli North Local Government Area in Delta State.

An eyewitness has revealed that this cable which was old and weak had broken on the roof of the stall. Mary had attempted to save her son but they were both shocked by the cable.

The spark had also resulted in a fire which burnt the stall and the victims to death.

Residents of the community have stated this isn't the first time such will happen. They have been demanding that the BEDC replaces all the old cables instead of the patch work they've been doing.

Chief Kingsley Emomate, who is the Secretary General of the community, has expressed his sadness over this incident.

He also appealed to the BEDC to come to replace these cables in the community so as to prevent such happening in the future.

He also urged the government to intervene in the matter.
