The National Identity Management Commission, or NIMC, has denied accusations that the records of Nigerians' National Identity Numbers, or NINs, are missing from its database.

Kayode Adegoke, the NIMC's Head of Corporate Communications, claimed claims that the commission had lost 7.9 million Nigerian NIN were inaccurate and deceptive.

According to a news media who claimed NIMC may have misplaced 7.9 million Nigerian NIN records.

In a statement signed by Adegoke, he assured Nigerians that the database is safe and secure.

The NIMC database, according to Adegoke, is impregnable, thus no data can be lost.

With considerable dismay, the Nigerian Tribune of June 7, 2022, published an erroneous and malicious news report with the deceptive and misleading headline: "Is it true that NIMC misplaced 7.9 million NIN records?"

In the said misleading report, the writer insinuated that NIMC lost 7.9 million NIN records of Nigerians; the writer also provided varying inaccuracies of the NIMC database in an attempt to confuse and misinform the general public, including incorrectly stating that the National Identification Number (NIN) is a 10-digit number.

Adegoke advised Nigerians to disregard the aforementioned news, claiming that it was the result of the "writer's juvenile imagination."
