49 protesters were arrested outside the Jubilee House in Accra, Ghana yesterday and unlawfully detained.

The protest which started yesterday 21st September was fueled by the current economic hardship and high cost of living in the country.

The police said they arrested the protesters because they were not supposed to mount outside the government building Jubilee House for any form of demonstration.

It is quite surprising that even some journalists who were at the scene were arrested alongside the protesters yesterday.

The protesters were beaten and asked to hand over their phones to the police before they were taken to the police stations.

Since then, Ghanaians have called for the release of the peaceful protesters saying that it is a constitutional right to protest and nobody should suffer for it.
