Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo has been impeached.

According to reports, about 18 out of 36 members of the State House of Assembly impeached the Speaker through a legislative coup and replaced him with Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, his opponent at the last election.

Oluomo was impeached for embezzlement of funds and other related crimes. In 2022, the former speaker was arrested by the EFCC at Murtala Mohammed International Airport for mismanagement of public funds.

A disturbing video of the legislators in a state of confusion after the plenary session in Abeokuta today has sparked reactions online.
