Two Arrested over death of student in OAU


Two suspects has been arrested over the beating and death of a student of the Obafemi Awolowo University.

This development came as protests rocked the University over the death of the student.

We learnt the deceased was a final year student of the university and he was beaten to death after he stole a phone at one of the halls of residence, Awo Hall.

The student was confirmed dead when he was taken to the hospital.

He was rushed to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital after the incident.

Many angry students have taken to the streets of the university to protest. This was on Wednesday, April 13, 2023.

They decided to shut down the student union building in protest.

It was the Public Relations Officer of the Union, Ogunperi Taofeek Olalekan who revealed that 2 people had been arrested which is linked to the death of the student.
He said the matter is still under investigation.

He also mentioned that the protesters have been dispatched.

Yemisi Opalola, who is the spokesperson for the state police command, also confirmed the arrest of 2 people.
