WORLD BANK AND AfDB TO INVEST $7.5 BILLION IN NIGERIA'S POWER SECTOR

1. Investment Overview:
- Total Investment: $30 billion by World Bank and African Development Bank (AfDB)
- Nigeria’s Share: $7.5 billion (approximately 25% of total investment)

2. Purpose and Plan:
- Objective: Electrify 300 million additional Africans over the next five years
- Focus: Enhancement and upgrade of power infrastructure in Nigeria and across Africa

3. Announcement Details:
- Date and Location: July 23, 2024, during a visit to Splendor Electric Nigeria Limited in Odogbolu, Ogun State
- Minister: Adebayo Adelabu, Nigeria’s Power Minister
- Funding Distribution: 20-25% of the funds allocated to Nigeria due to its large population

4. Siemens Project Update:
- Project Involves: Construction of new transmission and injection sub-stations
- Current Status: Pilot stage nearing completion; Phase 1 to commence soon

- Population: Over 200 million
- Power Supply Issues: Frequent grid collapses (46 from 2017 to 2023) and significant blackouts
- Electricity Customers: Less than 13 million in Nigeria
