CBN TO HOLD ITS 297TH MONETARY POLICY COMMITTEE (MPC) MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 23 AND 24, 2024.

Key Details:
1. Event:
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will hold its 297th Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on September 23 and 24, 2024.

2. Location & Time:
The meeting will take place at the CBN headquarters in Abuja.
Day 1: September 23, 2024, at 10:00 am.

Day 2: September 24, 2024, at 8:00 am.

3. Purpose of the Meeting:
The MPC will review economic and financial conditions in Nigeria and decide on the appropriate monetary policy direction for the short to medium term.

The MPC focuses on maintaining price stability, supporting economic growth, and managing inflation.

4. Monetary Policy Focus:
The CBN has maintained a tight monetary stance in previous meetings, aiming to combat inflation by raising the monetary policy rate.

Inflation rose to 29.9% in January 2024 from 28.9% in December 2023.

5. Economic Conditions:
Weak economic growth and the depreciation of the naira due to a shortage of foreign currency have contributed to rising prices.

The equities market in Nigeria has performed well in 2024.

6. Expectations for the Meeting:
Analysts expect the MPC to take a cautious approach, balancing the need for economic growth with price stability.

Investors and financial institutions closely monitor MPC decisions due to their significant impact on market dynamics.
