Fire breaks out in Onitsha Main Market

In the early hours of today, March 21, 2023, a fire broke out at the main market in Onitsha, Anambra state.
This market is known to be the biggest in West Africa.

We got to know that the fire started very early this morning and it affected a section of the market that is known as White House.

This area known as White House houses shops, the market leaders offices, and others.

We learnt that the most affected areas are the shops underneath the White house where expensive materials are sold.

This section is a warehouse where lace and other expensive materials are sold.

The cause of the fire is still unknown but a lot of goods and infrastructure have been damaged in the fire.

This isn't the first or second fire being recorded in a Nigerian market this year. People are beginning to wonder how these fires are just happening.

In the absence of the fire service, traders have been seen running around to put out the fire. They have gathered to attempt to stop the fire while trying to reach out to the fire service.

As at the time when this was noted, the fire service boss in Anambra who is Martin Agbili, wasn't reachable.
