The Federal Government has made it mandatory for all nurses to work for a minimum of two years post-qualification before they can travel abroad for practice.

This was contained in a statement by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN, yesterday. The body stated that all nurses and midwives must have a minimum of two years of experience post qualification from the date of issuance of license before their certificates can go through verification.

All nurses and midwives must have an active practicing license with a minimum of 6 months to the expiry date. Additionally, all applicants will submit a letter of good standing, one from the Chief Executive Officer of their place of work, and the nursing training institution the applicant last attended.

This new verification process will take 6 months before completion. This is in line with the body's revised guidelines for verification of certificates and it is to take effect from 1st March 2024.
