United Capital Plc has proposed a final dividend of ₦0.70 per share for the 2025 financial year. The company already paid an interim dividend of ₦0.30, which means the total dividend for the year is ₦1.00 per share. The dividend will be paid to shareholders whose names are on the register by April 7, 2026, and payment is expected on April 24, 2026.

The reason for this dividend increase is because the company’s profit after tax increased by about 16.5%, showing strong financial performance and growth in earnings.

UCAP is known as a strong dividend-paying stock in Nigeria.
The company has been increasing dividends over the years.
If the company continues to grow its profit, dividends may continue to increase.
Many investors buy UCAP because of dividend income and long-term growth.

UCAP looks like a good dividend stock for long-term investors, especially those who want passive income. But investors should also watch the share price and overall market conditions before buying.

Beyond the dividend, we look forward to capital appreciation. Ucap hasn’t done well in the past 1yr which we understand that due to the bonus declared 2yrs ago and obviously, investors are not pleased with the dividend declared hence no corresponding price increment.

Nice one, this is clear.
United Capital Plc paying ₦1 total dividend is solid, especially with that profit growth.
No wonder people like it for steady income.
Just like you said, still important to watch the price before entering—but as a dividend play, it looks strong.

You're right, though ucap rallied from about 11 to 30 something Nigeria before the huge dividend and bonus issued

That represents not just a payout, but a signal of consistent profitability and capital discipline.

UCAP’s consistent dividend increases make it a tool for both wealth preservation and compounding.

Owning shares is like owning a machine that prints cash while appreciating, assuming management continues executing well.

But the real edge comes when you consider the interplay between price and yield. Buying blindly for dividends without regard to valuation can erode returns.

I understand your point about capital appreciation, and I agree that beyond dividends, investors also want price growth. However, in the case of United Capital Plc, I think the market may still be pricing the impact of the bonus issue from two years ago, which increased the number of shares in circulation and naturally affected the price movement.
Also, UCAP is more of a fundamentals and earnings-driven company. If profit continues to grow and the company maintains its dividend policy, price appreciation may eventually follow earnings growth, even if it is not immediate.
Sometimes the market does not respond immediately to dividend announcements, especially if investors expected a higher payout, but long-term investors usually focus on earnings growth, return on equity, and consistency of dividend over time.
So the real question may be this:
Is UCAP currently a short-term price play, or a long-term wealth compounding stock?

What do you think — is UCAP a hold for long-term capital appreciation, or mainly a dividend income stock?
